Courses: July 18, 2009 -- Fight Like a Girl (FLAG) Instructor Certification Course July 19, 2009 -- Girls on Guard (GOG) Instructor Certification Course Instructor: Location: Mike Wall's Paradise Valley School of Karate (Plug that address into Map Quest for a map). The facility is located on the southeast corner of 32nd Street and Thunderbird. Times: Fight Like a Girl (FLAG) -- Saturday, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Girls on Guard (GOG) -- Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The weekend has been structured to allow instructors the option of becoming certified in either of the modules or both. If you want to become certified in both modules, you only have one night hotel stay (over a Saturday night). Since the first course starts on Saturday afternoon and the second course finishes up Sunday afternoon, you can come in on Saturday morning and leave Sunday evening. Each day is devoted to one module. We cover all of the techniques plus tips to put your students at ease and tricks to avoid the pitfalls involved in this obviously sensitive area. The course is as much "how" to teach as "what" to teach. On Saturday night we have an optional dinner. It's a great way to all meet and discuss the events of the day and plans for the future. Graduates who are certified in one module will be known as "Instructor 1" and graduates who become certified in both modules will be known as "Instructor 2". If you choose to be certified in 3 modules, you'll be known as "Instructor 3" with the appropriate modules behind your instructor level. When you are certified in 4 or more modules, you will be known as "Senior Instructor". Cost: The cost per module is $295 per person. This low cost can realistically be made up by teaching one class (10 students at $30 each) and there are tons benefits for becoming an instructor. Nearby Hotels: Best Western Phoenix Inn Suites Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort This resort is basically right next door to the Best Western above, but offers a decidedly more upscale experience. Attendees who have stayed here do so when bringing their families or spouses who want to have a resort experience during the class times. There are a number of swimming pools, a lazy river, waterslides and interactive children's activities. The Web site www.pointehilton.com has information on rooms, dining, and amenities. This resort does have shuttle service to the airport. Let us know if you will be booking at this hotel and need a shuttle ride to Paradise Valley School of Karate as well. Airports Sky Harbor International Airport is the main airport in Phoenix. The code is PHX and it's only about 20 minutes away from the hotel. Equipment & Refreshments We will be working all day on the mats so you should wear long pants and shirts with sleeves. All of the other equipment will be supplied. The course materials will be provided so you can focus your attention on the course. We will have fruit, power bars, Gatorade and water available at all times throughout the course. If you have any special dietary needs, you'll need to make sure you are self-sufficient. Registration There will be some limits put on the number of participants as well as the number of instructors representing certain regions. For example, we have plenty of instructors here in town, so we will not be accepting any more candidates from the Phoenix area. So make sure you register early to save a spot. By becoming a women's self-defense instructor, you are doing a great thing for your community. Hope to see you there!
