Women's Self-Defense Instructors
Kristen Andersen studies Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu,
a grappling martial art, under the instruction of Steve Kardian at his
Westchester County, N.Y. academy. While at Steve’s school, Kristen was
introduced to the Rape Escape program and has been actively involved ever since. As a certified Rape Escape instructor she looks forward to bringing this program to women in the community. She currently attends classes at a local community college and plans to host a series of workshops open to all female students. “What impresses me most about the Rape Escape program is twofold: the fact that a smaller person can successfully defend herself against a larger attacker and that the techniques are easy to learn and even easier to remember." | What do you mean "Fight like a Girl"?
"In a stranger-rape situation, if he allows you to see his face, you get his name, or you can somehow otherwise identify your attacker, and he knows it, it’s all the more important to get away from him, even if he has a knife and you are risking injury. Because unless he’s quite inexperienced, he’s likely to kill you to leave no witnesses." Program a Long Time Coming "The concept of enlightening women to 'fight like girls' is a long time coming. We should have been doing this years ago. The female body is built differently and can be used effectively against a male attacker if trained properly. Defend University and the Rape Escape program have proven again and again that the Fight Like a Girl program is successful, easy to learn and easy to deliver."
