Women's Self-Defense Instructors

Tracie Arlington
Certified Instructor
San Diego, California

Tracie is a professional women & children's self-defense instructor for Play it Safe Self-Defense Strategies for Women & Children in San Diego.

She is an experienced black belt and specializes in women and teen self-defense, children bully defense and abduction defense/stranger awareness.  She has been educating and empowering women and children who are in shelters and transitional housing in addition to educating college students of the link between alcohol and sexual assaults.

While having taught 1400 Girl Scouts since January 2003, she also volunteers for self-defense clinics taught in churches, schools and teen organizations and is a guest speaker for women and teen groups.

"Self-defense training enables women, teens and children to be more confident about themselves and their environment.  I believe that we should be teaching awareness and self-defense skills to young children just as we teach them water safety, fire safety etc. All women and children need to recognize potential danger and inappropriate behavior and to know what to do if they are attacked.

"I truly believe that teaching self-defense  is God's purpose for my life. I've seen too much, and I've heard too many stories from women who were raped, abused, or molested as children. I really want to impact the lives of teen-agers.

"KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! Teaching children at a young age about stranger awareness and inappropriate behavior from an adult. This can be taught in a fun and age-appropriate environment through club activities or an after-school program. Teens need to be taught self-defense as an elective in their physical ED. class in Jr. & Sr. High. Colleges should provide mandatory workshops for college freshmen -- male and female.

"I am a strong advocate of Rape Escape because I believe it is the most natural and realistic type of women's self-defense training available. These techniques are simple and easy to remember. Any woman can learn these techniques and feel confident regardless of age, size or fitness level. Rape Escape gives me 'Peace of Mind' as an instructor. In the past, I would worry about my students
retaining the information I taught, especially if they weren't practicing."

Recently Tracie was chosen to be a "featured Mom" in the CLUB MOM  "Making A Difference Program" contest. This National contest is looking for Moms that are making a difference in their communities.

What do you mean "Fight like a Girl"?

"In a stranger-rape situation, if he allows you to see his face, you get his name, or you can somehow otherwise identify your attacker, and he knows it, it’s all the more important to get away from him, even if he has a knife and you are risking injury.  Because unless he’s quite inexperienced, he’s likely to kill you to leave no witnesses."

 John Douglas, legendary FBI profiler

Program a Long Time Coming

"The concept of enlightening women to 'fight like girls' is a long time coming. We should have been doing this years ago.  The female body is built differently and can be used effectively against a male attacker if trained properly.  Defend University and the Rape Escape program have proven again and again that the Fight Like a Girl program is successful, easy to learn and easy to deliver."

Dave Scorza
