Women's Self-Defense Instructors
"A tenet I like to use is "can do", a phrase I borrowed from the Navy and one
which has always been echoed throughout my classes. Before any techniques
are taught we learn to be positive by thinking "yes you can" and by taking the
work "can't" out of our vocabulary! Women want techniques that are easy to
learn, remember, and -- most importantly -- work in the real world." Bill is a highly experienced trainer and martial artist who has the rather rare distinction of serving in the Army, Navy and Marines. He has 25 years of martial arts experience having studied shotokan, tang soo do, jujitsu, and krav maga. He specialized in training in the military during Vietnam in the 82nd Airborne and the First Marine Division. "Throughout the years I have had a special interest in self-defense and teaching techniques that really work. Many of my women students were eager to learn how to deal with a violent attack, especially if it involved rape. Many were eager to know more than the traditional martial arts, so I found myself staying after class and even teaching separate self-defense classes. Eventually I found myself just teaching self-defense to groups, friends and employees at the hospital. There is a great demand at hospitals for a proven women's self-defense program. "We are not just teaching techniques but building confidence, self-esteem and character. Practice the self-defense techniques like your life depended on it. Remember to think smart and live." | What do you mean "Fight like a Girl"?
"In a stranger-rape situation, if he allows you to see his face, you get his name, or you can somehow otherwise identify your attacker, and he knows it, it’s all the more important to get away from him, even if he has a knife and you are risking injury. Because unless he’s quite inexperienced, he’s likely to kill you to leave no witnesses." Program a Long Time Coming "The concept of enlightening women to 'fight like girls' is a long time coming. We should have been doing this years ago. The female body is built differently and can be used effectively against a male attacker if trained properly. Defend University and the Rape Escape program have proven again and again that the Fight Like a Girl program is successful, easy to learn and easy to deliver."
