Women's Self-Defense Instructors
Instructor 3 Michelle is a fireball of activity and enthusiasm when it comes to self-defense. As a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Okinawan Shorei Goju Ryu, 2nd level student in Muay Thai, and student of Jiu-Jitsu she teaches children and women. Michelle coordinates and teaches free
seminars for Girl Scout & Boy Scout troops "I am constantly training and am always looking for simple & effective self-defense techniques to teach women when defending against a man," she says. I want to make sure that the techniques really work and avoid giving women & girls a false sense of security when it comes to defending themselves." She wants to help as many women as possible develop and achieve the confidence needed to defend themselves if necessary. "I want women to know that they do not need to earn a black belt in order to effectively defend themselves. I want women to know that they need to work past any self esteem issues that they may have, because if you have low self esteem, you are going to have difficulty defending yourself. I want to get the message across to teenaged girls especially as they are most at risk, that nobody has the right to hurt or abuse them, and that it is o.k. to fight back, and do some damage to your attacker, even if he is somebody that you know." "In a stranger-rape situation, if he allows you to see his face, you get his name, or you can somehow otherwise identify your attacker, and he knows it, it’s all the more important to get away from him, even if he has a knife and you are risking injury. Because unless he’s quite inexperienced, he’s likely to kill you to leave no witnesses." Program a Long Time Coming "The concept of enlightening women to 'fight like girls' is a long time coming. We should have been doing this years ago. The female body is built differently and can be used effectively against a male attacker if trained properly. Defend University and the Rape Escape program have proven again and again that the Fight Like a Girl program is successful, easy to learn and easy to deliver."
