Women's Self-Defense Instructors
Melanie is a huge advocate for women's self-defence training in the United Kingdom. She trains professionals and graduates in diverse business skills and translates that experience to reaching out to the women throughout the country.
She is involved in a number of diverse community projects including fund raising mainly for local charities.
And she feels the time has come for the Rape Escape program in her country. "Women in the UK have not been encouraged to learn self -defence skills since the late 1980's. This was a wonderful time when many large companies paid for female employees to learn this vital skill and so there were many great trainers. Since then, Women's self -defence has not been promoted widely leading to less lessons and less new instructors. Now it is really hard to find great instructors who can provide real defence for real women. My aim is to lead the campaign in the UK for women to prioritise learning self defence. It's well overdue." Contact info E-mail:

"In a stranger-rape situation, if he allows you to see his face, you get his name, or you can somehow otherwise identify your attacker, and he knows it, it’s all the more important to get away from him, even if he has a knife and you are risking injury. Because unless he’s quite inexperienced, he’s likely to kill you to leave no witnesses." Program a Long Time Coming "The concept of enlightening women to 'fight like girls' is a long time coming. We should have been doing this years ago. The female body is built differently and can be used effectively against a male attacker if trained properly. Defend University and the Rape Escape program have proven again and again that the Fight Like a Girl program is successful, easy to learn and easy to deliver."
