Women's Self-Defense Instructors

David Ivers
Certified Instructor
Kilcullen, Ireland

David started his martial arts training in Kempo at a young age and achieved his 2nd brown belt.  He studied Ninjutsu for 3 years, reaching the grade of 7th Kyu.  He now trains in Aikido with Ray Butcher and Graham Murphy.

David Ivers, certified women's self-defense instructorHe is skilled in teaching individuals as a fully-qualified PADI Open Water Scuba Diving Instructor and fully qualified First Aid Instructor.  He has taught and certified many divers in both Scuba Diving and First Aid since 2002.

David observes that assaults on women are becoming more common and more aggressive.  He says self-defense training offers women a tremendous advantage, "whether or not the woman needs to use it in a defensive situation, like any other Martial Art, it will without doubt increase confidence and self esteem in day to day life."

"I feel that a lot of women’s self-defense is not really catered for in an effective manner and see that a lot of styles require a big- time commitment before students get a good grasp of technique and feel confident in defensive situations.

He feels the Rape Escape method is different.

"I really like the structure of the course, the way the techniques are effective from day one.  People end up seeing results from the first training session.  To be involved in this and to help spread the word and promote the “Fight Like a Girl” system through Ireland with the help of existing instructors is extremely rewarding."

What do you mean "Fight like a Girl"?

"In a stranger-rape situation, if he allows you to see his face, you get his name, or you can somehow otherwise identify your attacker, and he knows it, it’s all the more important to get away from him, even if he has a knife and you are risking injury.  Because unless he’s quite inexperienced, he’s likely to kill you to leave no witnesses."

 John Douglas, legendary FBI profiler

Program a Long Time Coming

"The concept of enlightening women to 'fight like girls' is a long time coming. We should have been doing this years ago.  The female body is built differently and can be used effectively against a male attacker if trained properly.  Defend University and the Rape Escape program have proven again and again that the Fight Like a Girl program is successful, easy to learn and easy to deliver."
